Facts about the Americas:

North and South America were named after the Italian explorer, Amerigo Vespucci. First, "America" referred to what is now called South America, but the name soon spread to include North America.

North and South America are sometimes considered subcontinents, with "America" as a single continent.

Lowest point in the Americas - Badwater Basin ,Death Valley, California, United States of America (86 m or 282 ft below sea level)

Highest point in the Americas - Aconcagua, Mendoza, Argentina (6,961 m or 22,837 ft above sea level)
